How To Get Stuck On A Pole
The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Traffic Engineering division and Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department Animal Control division worked together to make an unusual rescue of a kitten Friday.Animal control contacted LTU Thursday with reports of a meowing coming from inside a light pole at the intersection of North 17th and P streets near the University of Nebraska campus.After inspecting the light pole Friday, crews found a kitten inside."We weren't sure what to expect when we first received the report. This is extremely rare and the first time we have ever received a report like this," Woitaszewski said. "The kitten was a little feisty and did not want to come out, but we were able to pull him out and get him to a safe place." Lincoln Animal Control says they suspect the kitten got scared during a thunderstorm, and crawled into the pole from underneath through a small gap between the base and the ground.The kitten was taken to Capital Humane Society and appears to be in good health and eating. The kitten is estimated to be only four to five weeks old.The Capital Humane Society said that if the kitten is not claimed within three days, it will go to foster care and will be put up for adoption once it is old enough and gains more weight.
